    Abstract: A description is given of a planar oxygen sensor based on zirconium dioxide is suitable for measuring the oxygen content in combustion furnaces and/or in the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines. Disposed on an outside surface of the sensor is a noble-metal measuring electrode and in its interior there is a reference electrode which is connected in a conducting manner to an outside contact and is surrounded by two zirconium dioxide layers. In the region near its periphery, one of these layer has a hole whose outwardly directed part is sealed by a glass solder. The inner part of the hole is filled with sintered platinum which produces a conductive connection between a platinum wire which leads outwards through the hole as an external contact and a platinum conductor track which is disposed on the inner boundary surface of the zirconium dioxide layer and leads to the reference electrode. A method of manufacturing the oxygen sensor is also described.

    Abstract: The apparatus comprises a closed oven with atmosphere and temp. control, opposed optical input and output apertures, an electrical thermoelement and a specimen holder. A laser (1) near the first input aperture is directed at the specimen (7). Infrared radiation from the specimen's underside is detected by a detector (9) near the first output aperture. Measured values from the thermoelement are converted into conductivity values by a connected data processing system. A second laser (8) is mounted outside the oven near a second input aperture with a contactless area detector (6) near a second output aperture. The laser directions are mutually perpendicular and the lasers are electronically coupled. The second laser and detector are connected to the data processor via a measurement cable.
