Abstract: Intumescent halogen-free flameproof coating materials comprising :(A) 75-95 parts weight epoxy resins ; (B) 5-25 parts weight polyphosphonic and/or polyphosphoric acid esters ; and (C) curing agent. The (A) + (B)/(C) weight ratio is 1.1-10:1. Also claimed are (i) the preparation of the coatings by reacting (A) and (B) and then adding (C), and (ii) the use of these materials for the preparation of coatings.

Abstract: The expandable, flame-resistant (flame-retardant) coating compositions consist at least of from 4 to 25 % by weight of a film-forming binder, from 10 to 40 % by weight of ammonium polyphosphate, from 8 to 40 % by weight of at least one substance which is carbonised under the effect of heat, from 6 to 25 % by weight of an expansion (blowing) agent, from 0 to 5 % by weight of dispersants, and from 0 to 25 % by weight of fillers. In these coating compositions, ammonium salts of alkyl phosphates are present as substances which are carbonised under the effect of heat and/or as expansion agents, and as additional acid donors.

Abstract: The novel feature in an expandable, halogen-free, flame-retardant coating composition containing an epoxy resin, polyphosphoric acid ester (I) and a hardener is that it comprises 75-95 parts wt. epoxy resin and 5-25 parts wt. (I), with the wt. ratio (resin + (I)) : hardener being 1.1-10 : 1. Claimed production is by first reacting the resin with (I) and then treating the reaction product in a second step with the hardener.
