    Abstract: In the calcination of mouldings used as reacting mixture components in electro-thermal carbide furnaces and obtained by granulating or briquetting of moist calcium hydroxide, by (a) transporting the mouldings through a heating zone on a belt, high temps. being produced by burning gases above the belt and waste gases being drawn away below the belt, (b) covering the calcium hydroxide mouldings present on the belt with a covering layer and transporting them directly through the heating zone without pre-drying, generally as disclosed in DT 2407506, the improvement whereby the covering material is applied to the calcium hydroxide mouldings in such a way that the surface of the covering layer has a corrugated profile. Solves the problem of non-uniform metering of the covering material particularly limestone chips, which can lead to the suction belt being damaged by exposure to excessively high temperatures. A calcined product of improved quality is obtained with an increase in throughput.

    Abstract: To convert pollutant-containing dusts, in particular electrostatic precipitator dust arising in the production of yellow phosphorus from a batch mixture composed of crude phosphate, gravel and coke in the electrothermal reduction furnace, into landfillable form, an aqueous suspension is first produced from the dusts by suspension in water. Then substances producing bulky precipitates are added to the aqueous suspension, forming a thick pulp. Finally, the thick pulp is mixed with finely divided moist calcium metasilicate slag at a water/slag ratio of (25 to 1):1, a flocculating aid being added to the thick pulp immediately before mixing. A plant for carrying out the process comprises a bunker (7) which is furnished with a feed pipe (1) for a slag/water mixture and with a descending pipe (6), an outlet pipe (18) for slag and a line (5) for water outlet. The feed pipe (1) opens into a hydrocyclone (2) and from the bottom outlet of the hydrocyclone (2) there leaves a first line (3) which is flow-connected to the descending pipe (6). A second line (10) opens out into the descending pipe (6), which second line can be fed via a screw pump (9) with thick pulp from a first vessel (8). A third line (11) opens out into the second line (10) shortly upstream of its outlet-side end, which third line [lacuna] via a pump (12) with flocculant aid... Original abstract incomplete.

    Abstract: A burner which is suitable for operation with a brown-coal dust/air mixture and at least one combustible gas comprises a burner head 1, a burner central part 2 and a burner foot 3. In this arrangement, the burner head 1 has a laterally arranged inlet connection piece 4 and a gas feed pipe 18 running concentrically with the burner axis, while the burner foot 3 comprises at least one ceramic insert 15 provided with a central opening. The burner central part 2 comprises an outer tube 5, a central tube 6 and an inner tube 7 which are arranged concentrically with one another so as to form an outer annular space 8 and a central annular space 9. The burner foot 3 is built up from an inner tube 11 and an outer tube 12 which are arranged concentrically with each other so as to form an annular space 13. The inner tube 11 and the outer tube 12 are connected in a tight-sealing manner at their upper side and their lower side with in each case one horizontally arranged plate 14 having a central opening. A ceramic insert 15 bears against the inner surface of the inner tube 11 and every plate 14. The gas feed pipe 18 inserted centrally into the burner head 1 is guided through the burner central part 2 so as to form an inner annular space 19 and terminates in the upper region of the burner foot 3.
