Abstract: An emission spectrometer assembly, for determining a quantity of trace substances in a biological specimen, comprises devices for carrying out a dynamic background radiation correction in conjunction with each wavelength of the spectrum to be investigated. Movable aligning and refracting devices, typically revolving quartz plates, are mounted so that they can swing into the path of the beam emitted from the specimen the effect of the rotation of one quartz plate to different angular positions relative to the incident beam of radiation is to cause a photodetector to receive a beam which is of the wavelength specific to the specimen under analysis and also comprises a narrow wavelength band on either side of this specific wavelength. Used in preventive medicine and health care in general, for measuring the concns. of biologically important elements in normal, healthy persons for comparison purposes in addition to corresp. measurements of sick persons.
