Abstract: A method, an analytical device (114) and an analytical system (110) for determining a concentration of at least one analyte in a bodily fluid (112) is disclosed. The method comprising: a) applying a sample of the bodily fluid (112) to a test carrier (116); b) illuminating the test carrier (116) by at least one light source (127); c) receiving light remitted by the test carrier (116) by using at least one detector (132); d) determining the concentration of the analyte by evaluating at least one detector signal generated by the detector (132). The at least one light source (127) is modulated by using at least two modulation frequencies. The detector signal is demodulated with the at least two modulation frequencies in order to generate at least two demodulated detector signals, each demodulated detector signal corresponding to one of the modulation frequencies. The method comprises a fault detection based on a comparison of the at least two demodulated detector signals.
