Abstract: A control and suspension system for a retractable blind mounted on a rotating element includes an apparatus for mechanically limiting over-retractions of the covering (see figures 4 and 5B) and another apparatus for mechanically limiting over-extensions of the covering (see especially figures 5A and 23). The apparatus for limiting over-retraction includes a threaded shaft 72 and an internal wheel 152 threaded on the threaded shaft 72. The wheel 152 is prevented from rotation relative to roller 36 by means of a longitudinal tongue 114 and groove 160. As the blind is rolled up on to roller 36 the wheel 152 moves along the thread 72 until an intercepting ledge 166 comprising part of the wheel 152 contacts a stopping ledge 150 comprising part of the threaded shaft 72, thus preventing the roller 36 from being further rotated. The apparatus for limiting over-extension includes a second wheel 86 having a stop 92 pivotally mounted thereto. When the blind is fully lowered and its covering material is fully extended, the stop 92 rotates away from the wheel 86 under gravity and prevents further rotation of the roller 36 by contacting a substantially annular channel wall in an end cap 66. A skew adjustment means is also provided (see figures 3B and 5A). By turning a screw 76 within a screwthread 84 the end cap 66 can be raised and lowered to ensure that the roller 36 is horizontal. Also provided is a bottom rail that attaches to the bottom of the blind covering by trapping a portion of the covering material between a compression plate and a bottom plate (see especially figures 9-16).

Abstract: A covering for an architectural opening such as a window or door is in the form of a vertically oriented fabric assembly having front and rear sheer fabrics interconnected by vertically extending vanes. The vanes can be tilted through a series of carriers mounted on a track rail from which the covering is suspended in order to adjust the spacing between the fabrics between open and closed positions and adjust the light transmitting characteristics of the covering. The covering can be extended across the opening by separating the carriers on the track rail and can be contracted by stacking the carriers toward one end of the track rail. A unique design of carrier allows the covering to fold on itself in the contracted state, in the manner of a conventional drape.
