    Abstract: An improved unitary one-piece head suspension assembly (28), combining a mounting arm (32), a load beam (30) and a read/write head supporting flexure (29), preferably etched of a single sheet of material, is provided for use in dynamic storage devices and rigid disk drives. The number of required components for the HSA is reduced. By eliminating the need for welding a separate flexure to a separate load beam and then to a separate mounting arm, the number of process steps in fabricating the HSA is decreased and the possibility of warpage to the HSA is prevented. Design changes are more easily facilitated by using the present etched unitary mounting arm and suspension assembly.

    Abstract: A magnetic head suspension for attachment to a rigid head arm comprises a spring load beam element and a flexure element. The load beam element (14) is formed from material generally having a first thickness. The load beam has a central region (38, 50, 60, 70) having a second thickness, less thick than the first thickness, formed in a spring region (40). The second thickness may be formed by the partial (50, 60) or complete (38, 70) removal of load beam material in the central region. First thickness legs (40, 42) bounding the central region (38) may be formed to be of widest width (W3) at the location proximal to the rigid section of the load beam, and of narrowest width (W4) between the two ends of each leg, thus providing good lateral stiffness and spring rate characteristics.

    Abstract: Two HSAs (10, 12) are mounted to a single rigid arm (18) such that the HSAs (10, 12) interleave one another, with a head (36) of one HSA (12) projecting through an aperture (40) on the load beam (22) of the other HSA (10).     Abstract: An electrical head interconnect assembly is fabricated for installation upon the suspension member supporting a magnetic read/write head over a rotating storage disk of a magnetic disk drive. An interconnect is comprised of a film carrier strip (50) upon which conducting elements (52) are positioned and bonded. The conducting elements (52) are routed along a prepatterned carrier strip defining the X, Y and Z coordinate positioning required to mate with a suspension member (54) without manual routing or manipulation.     Abstract: An improved low profile magnetic head disk assembly (28) is used with dynamic magnetic information storage devices or rigid disk drives. The HDA (28) includes a head mounted to a suspension, wherein the suspension base plate is an integral part of the actuator arm (34). Each actuator arm (34) is in close registration with a bearing (36). The actuator assembly positions the head in close proximity with the rigid disk (42) surfaces, with the actuator arms (34) positioned exterior to the disks (42) and not passing over the surface of the disks (42). The actuator arms (34) may be a single piece for each disk (42), two pieces (one for each suspension), or three pieces (two actuator arms and one spacer). The center line of the actuator(s), with or without the spacer, is at the center line of the disk, thus reducing the total HDA (28) height.
