Abstract: The method involves transmitting a card command to a comparator in a chip card reader, prior to its being executed. The card command to be executed is compared with defined patterns to identify critical card commands. If it is a critical command, an additional confirmation by the user is required. The comparison patterns may be applied to the card at manufacture, and transferred to the working memory of the card reader during initialization of the card. An apparatus for identifying and handling critical card commands is also claimed.
