Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product are disclosed for providing an incentive to a user to provide user information via a network to a website i n an electronic commerce environment. In the method, a valuable incentive is offered to the user via the network in exchange for commercially valuable information about the user. A response is then received from the user to the offer. If the response of the user is an acceptance of the offer, the valuable incentive is provided to the user either unconditionally or conditionally, dependent upon whether the acceptance is unconditional or conditional, respectively.

Abstract: A system for implementing a virtual class and distance education via a computer network is disclosed. The process carried out by the system involves receiving signals from one or more instructor entities, the signals including lesson material designated as belonging to one or more interest groups. Signals from one or more student entities are received requesting admission to a particular class and instructions are sent to student entities to control the display and execution of the lesson material. Interaction amongst student entities, or between student entities and instructor entities, are facilitated and moderated.
