Abstract:
A method for connecting two or more devices via a wireless communication channel is provided. In one embodiment, a method of connecting a first device to a second deviceincludes the steps of arbitrarily assigning one of twopossible states to each device, wherein in a first state, a device seeks to establish a connection with another device, and in a second state, the device renders itself available for connection with the other device; and alternating a present state of each device between the first state and the second state in accordance with a predefined probability distribution until either a predetermined timeout period has expired or a connection between the devices has been established, the length of time that each device remains in the first and second states being controlled by the probabilitydistribution. In a second embodiment, a method of forming a scatternet between a plurality of devices or nodes in an ad hoc wireless communication network is provided.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, a device and a system for dynamically adjusting transcoding parameters so as to increase the benefits of transcoding.SOLUTION: Methods of adaptation are designed to cope with the variability of network characteristics and of the size of transcoded images. There are provided a method and an apparatus for enabling the transcoding proxy to adjust a quality-size tradeoff on a per-image and/or a per-client basis; an adaptive transcoder for choosing different parameters for each object, and improving the performance; a general framework for making policy decisions taking into account available bandwidth, content and type of image, and user preferences; and methods for generating feedback about the choice of optimal transcoding parameters to a user.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, apparatus and system for dynamically adjusting transcoding parameters to increase the benefits of transcoding. SOLUTION: Methods of adaptation are designed to cope with the variability of network characteristics and of the size of transcoded images. This invention also provides a method and apparatus to enable the transcoding proxy to adjust a quality-size tradeoff on a per-image and/or a per-client basis. An adaptive transcoder chooses different parameters for each object, and provides performance improvement. The invention further provides a general framework for making policy decision taking into account available bandwidth, content and type of image, and user preferences. The invention also includes methods for generating feedback about the choice of optimal transcoding parameters to the user. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device and system for dynamically adjusting an exchange coding parameter for increasing the merits of exchange coding. SOLUTION: An appropriating method is designated for processing network characteristics and the variety of the size of an image to be exchange-coded. Also, the trade-off of quality and size can be adjusted for each image or client 230 by an exchange coded proxy. An appropriate exchange coder selects a different parameter for each object for improving performance. Moreover, policy decision is operated by a general frame work under the consideration of valid band width, image contents and type, and user selection. Also, feedback related with the selection of the optimal coding parameter is generated for a user.
