    Abstract: According to one embodiment, a method for storing data on a magnetic tape comprises receiving data from two different hosts and simultaneously writing the data from the hosts to the magnetic tape using multi-ple transducers. In another approach, a method for stor-ing data on a magnetic tape comprises receiving requests to establish a concurrent reservation from multiple hosts and allocating a unique stripe in a wrap to each of the hosts that sent the requests, wherein the wrap is a collec-tion of data tracks to be written simultaneously in one di-rection of tape movement by multiple transducers of a tape head, and the wrap is logically divided into the stripes. Also, the method includes receiving data from the hosts and simultaneously writing the data from the hosts to the magnetic tape using the multiple transducers. Oth-er systems and methods concerning storing data on mag-netic tapes are described as well.

Für die Nicht-WORM-Kassette reagiert das Laufwerk auf einen Befehl zur Erlaubnis des Überschreibens von Daten dahingehend, dass einem unmittelbar nachfolgenden Befehl des Schreibtyps erlaubt wird, auch dann auf die Kassette zu schreiben, wenn der Schreibbefehl vorhandene Daten überschreibt. Die Prozeduren zum Schutz gegen Überschreiben und die Prozeduren zum Überschreiben von Daten können für das Datenspeicherlaufwerk eingerichtet und aktiviert werden.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, an extended data storage system employs a first data storage and an extended data storage. A first level of metadata is established with respect to data from the using entity, the first level of metadata is provided in the first data storage. The data from the using entity is stored in the extended data storage. A second level of metadata at least describing the data as stored in the extended data storage is also established, wherein the second level of metadata associated with the first level of metadata for the stored data. The first level of metadata is made accessible to the using entity at the first data storage; and the second level of metadata is made unavailable to the using entity. Thus, the data is stored in the extended data storage and a small amount of metadata is stored in the first data storage.

Die erste Ebene von Metadaten wird für die anwendende Einheit bei der ersten Datenspeicherung zugänglich gemacht; und die zweite Ebene von Metadaten wird für die anwendende Einheit nicht verfügbar gemacht. So werden die Daten in dem erweiterten Datenspeicher gespeichert und eine kleine Menge von Metadaten wird in dem ersten Datenspeicher gespeichert.
