In a power mechanism for a typewriter, as described in the parent Specification, the cam element 17 is formed of two parts pivoted together; one part 17b has a tread surface 17h for engaging the power-roller 10 and the other part 17a is pivotally mounted at 11a on a typeaction sub-lever 11. Part 17b s spring-urged into contact with an adjusting screw 17g in the part 17a and is accessible from above so that the arc of the tread 17h can be varied relative to the pivot 11a and so that the actuating movement imparted to the sub-lever 11 may be altered. Clockwise adjustment of the part 17b also causes an increase in the initial acceleration of the parts 17a, 17b when engaged by the power-roll. The parts 17a, 17b are of thin construction and formed from plastic, e.g. nylon. A projection 17d thereon coacts with a recess 17e to assist in keeping the two parts in alignment.
