    Abstract: A line adapter for permitting the transfer of information between terminals and a bus connected to the central control unit CCU of a communications controller. The line adapter includes a microprocessor associated with a control memory and a scanner. A random access memory is split into zones, one zone being assigned to each line. During an initiating phase, the zones are personalized under the control of the microcode by sending initiating parameters (which are characteristics of the lines) to the memory, through an asynchronous path bus and external registers. Exchanges of temporarily-stored data between the CCU bus and the lines are carried out through cycle steal operations between the control memory and the random access memory.

    Abstract: Method for transporting asynchronous data and synchronous non coded information NCI bits on a common channel operating at (n+1)/T bits per second, in slots of duration T containing n+1 bits, the data and NCI portions of the bit stream to be transported being delimited by a flag having a specific pattern which cannot be simulated by the data bits. During the periods where there is an NCI activity, the first n bits of the slot are used for transporting NCI bits and the last bit is used for transporting an additional data bit, if the said first n bits are different from the flag pattern and said last bit is set to a first binary value (0) if said first n bits are similar to the flag pattern. During the periods where there is no NCI activity, data bits are sent in at least one slot delimited by two slots, the first n bits of which are set to the flag pattern and the last bit of which is set to the second binary value (1). A transmitting device and a corresponding receiving device are implemented for generating the bit stream built using the subject method on a communication channel and receiving the so-built bit stream.

    Abstract: A line interface receives information frames at a high line speed and the frame bytes are stored at addresses defined by write pointers saved in two write registers. Short frames are constructed fromthe frames received on the high speed line and each comprises a fixed number of frame bytes of which the storage locations in the store are defined by the write printer values. A bus interface receiver provides a scanner data bus and control lines for response to a received command from the central controller to output short constructed frames from the scanner and to sen the fixed number of frame bytes to the central controller. The write printer values in the short frames are prevented from being sent to the central controller and are provided to the two read registers.

    Abstract: Mechanism allowing data and packetized non coded information NCI such as packetized voice or images, to be exchanged between workstations connected to nodes of a communication network. The workstations (18) comprise means for arranging the bit stream to be sent into a format which comprises regular slots separated by flags. The data only slots begins with a first flag (F2), the NCI only and NCI-data slots begins with a second flag (F1) and inside the slot, flag F2 separates the NCI and data portions. The route between two workstations is established by a data session using the node resources. Once a route is established, the NCI portions of the bit stream is switched using high speed bus 26 and the data portions are routed using the normal data paths.

    Abstract: Multiplex interface (17,3) to be connected to the line scanning means (1) of a communication controller in order to exchange data and control bits between the line scanning means and the user lines attached to the communication controller. Transmit and receive synchronous multiplex links (3-T,3-R) connect the line scanning means to the line users through multiplexing means (17), the data and control bits being exchanged on the transmit and receive multiplex links in synchronous frames wherein at least two slots are assigned to each user line, the structure of the two slots being identical for all types of user lines and comprising: -a n-bit data slot which include a variable number x of valid bits depending upon the line speed of the user line assigned to the data slot, said number being indicated by a variable delimitation pattern comprising a first delimiting bit set at a first binary value (1) adjacent to the data bits and (n-x-1) bits set at the second binary value (0) adjacent to said first delimiting bit, and -a n-bit control slot wherein a first bit is used as global validation bits in case the data slot comprises n valid bits (x=n), this bit being set at the first binary value (1) when the data slot comprises n valid bits and at the second binary value (0) if it comprises less than n valid bits, and the n-1 following bits being used for exchanging control information.
