Palmer is provided with a novel dual keylever construction that properly time-sequences up and down shift code entries with respect to character entries. Fixed increment spacing is obtained by suppressing the measuring pin selection through an override device, thereby allowing control to be accomplished by a normally active measuring pin in cooperation with the measuring plate. By providing all measuring mode control at the measuring plate, it becomes unnecessary to modify the space control information generated in the typewriter keyboard.
