Abstract: A hypervideo player for playing hypervideos containing both video and hypervideo hyperlinks provides user selectable run-time options for the form of hypervideo hyperlink emphasis region display attributes displayed at the time of viewing. The hypervideo player may reside on a host system. The hypervideo player integrates video file(s) and hypervideo hyperlink data file(s) to form a hypervideo. The hypervideo player decodes a video file, encodes the decoded video file with a corresponding hypervideo hyperlink data file at key frames of the video file to form a hypervideo, displays the hypervideo on a display device and provides the user, at the time of viewing, with at least one user selectable option for the form of hypervideo hyperlink emphasis region display attributes. The hypervideo player preferably employs interpolation between key frames to determine the display position of the hypervideo hyperlink emphasis region(s) in non-key frames of the hypervideo. The use of key frame encoding and interpolation to determine the display position between key frames, enable the hypervideo hyperlink emphasis region(s) to be displayed at all desired locations of the hypervideo even though the hypervideo hyperlink data is encoded only at key frames.

Abstract: A packet communications system utilizes a route determining mechanism by identifying principal paths between the source and the destination in the system. Principal paths are minimum hop count paths with a transmission delay less than a specified threshold. Principal path links are accepted as legs of the optimum path, if feasible, i.e., if the resulting load on the link is less than a specified principal threshold. Secondary links are accepted only if the resulting load on the link is less than a specified secondary threshold, where the secondary threshold is less than the principal threshold. All paths must also have a transmission delay less than a specified threshold. Each request for a route includes the source node, the destination node, the load required, the maximum transmission delay and, if desired, the quality of service parameters which all of the legs of the route must satisfy. A modified Bellman-Ford breadth-first searchalgorithm is used to identify the principal links and, using these principal link identifications, determining the optimum path.

Abstract: A method is provided for controlling access to a communication medium intended for sharing by a least two stations to enable peer-to-peer communications therebetween. It includes the steps of sensing the medium at a first station to determine if the medium is in use. The first station transmitting a connection request message intended for a second station if the first station senses that the medium is not in use. Receiving at the second station the connection request message. The second station transmitting a connection confirm message intended for reception at the first station for the purpose of establishing a reservation of the transmission medium for use by the first and second stations. Transmitting information as one or more date messages from the first station to the second station. The second station upon receiving the last of the data messages from the first station transmitting an acknowledgement message intended for reception by the first station. The first station upon receiving the acknowledgement message subsequently transmitting a disconnect request message to the second station. The second station upon receiving the disconnect request message subsequently transmitting a disconnect confirm message for reception by the first station for the purpose of ending the reservation of the medium.

Abstract: A method of routing packets through a fixed source routing communications network from and to mobile units. With this invention an initial access point is determined when a communications session is established to or from a mobile unit through the network. Location information is updated each time the mobile unit moves out of the range of one access point and into the range of another access point of the network. When packets for the session are to be transmitted to the mobile unit from the wired network, the packets are forwarded from the initial access point to a current access point, which by definition is in the range of the mobile unit. When packets for the session are to be transmitted from the mobile unit and to the wired network, the access point intercepts these packets and routes them to their destination and/or initiates route discovery to those destinations. When packets are to be transmitted between mobiles at different access points. The packets are sent between the current access points and not through the home access points.
