[Also in Division B4] A punching device comprises a punch P connected to a striker 1 pivoted to the armature 2 of an electromagnet M, the striker being normally retained in a rest position by means of a resilient member 7 and a spring 8 and being driven towards its operative position in which a hole is punched in a paper tape B movable over a die D and then past its operative position when an abutment 1 1 on the striker progressively deforms a leaf spring 3 so that the latter exerts an increasing upward force on the striker to return it to the rest position when the electromagnet is de-energized.
