PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine the control entity of a first avatar in a virtual world.SOLUTION: A method for determining the control entity of a first avatar in a virtual world includes the steps of: receiving the access request of a resource via a first avatar; presenting a challenge to the first avatar in response to the reception of the request; receiving a challenge response via the first avatar in response to the presentation of the challenge; determining identity reliability on the basis of the challenge response; making identity determination about the control entity of the first avatar on the basis of the identity reliability; and approving or disapproving the access of the resource on the basis of the identity determination.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for encoding run-length limited data into a 5×5 matrix to record the data in holographic media, an encoding system, a recording system, and a holographic recording drive thereof. SOLUTION: In the method, the data is encoded to record it in the holographic media, wherein the method includes steps of: applying run-length limit encoding to 3-bytes data, where 4-bytes error correction code is attached, in 5×5 matrix information; and imparting the 5×5 matrix information to a spatial light modulator (SLM) as part of two-dimensional pixel matrix of the spatial light modulator, thereby recording holographic image in the holographic media. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new and specific speed calculation of a desired type of recording media for further improving the control technique of a storage medium. SOLUTION: The speed calculator makes high order calculation of the servo/frame speed of a storage medium especially such as a tape and a disk. It uses the servo/frame indexing module for producing the primary pre-servo/frame speed signals showing the primary calculation of the pre-servo/frame speed containing the primary pre-servo/frame errors, based on the current primary servo/frame speed signals showing the primary calculation of the current servo/frame speed containing the current primary servo/frame errors. Further, it uses the speed estimation module to produce higher order current servo/frame speed signals showing the secondary or higher order speed calculation of the current servo/frame speed containing the current high order servo/frame errors, based on the primary pre-servo/frame speed signals and the current primary servo/frame speed signals. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the holographic medium compatibility between holographic storage devices. SOLUTION: Disclosed here is a device, system, and method for calibrating the holographic storage devices. The read channel reads the factory-stored holograms on the holographic medium. The computing module calculates the difference between the read-out factory-stored holograms and the first holographic pattern digitally expressing the first factory-stored hologram. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reliability for multi-layer media in order to enhance the security of data. SOLUTION: In the method for reading and writing data to a plurality of layers of a storage medium, a data stream U having a series of data bits is received and stored to a multi-layer rotating storage medium. Each data bit U(J) is encoded into X representation bits. A first representation bit B(1, J) is recorded onto a first layer of the storage medium, the second representation bit B(2, J) is recorded onto a second layer of the storage medium, etc. When a request to read the recorded data U from the storage medium is subsequently received, a plurality of the X representation bits are read back from the storage medium and are decoded into the original data bit U(J). In one embodiment, encoding may be performed with a convolution encoding algorithm and decoding with a PRML decoding algorithm. In another embodiment, Reed Solomon encoding/decoding may be employed. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for increasing speed and reliability of storage of holographic information, and a method for using the apparatus. SOLUTION: The holographic information recording apparatus 200 is provided with a laser light source 105, a beam splitter 110, and a reflective spacial light modulator 210. The beam splitter 110 provides a reference beam 220 and a data carrier beam 230, the reference beam 220 is directed without reflection toward a holographic data storage medium 195. The data carrier beam 230 is reflected off the reflective spatial light modulator 210 to form data beam 240 comprising an image of information. Abstract:
A web browser displays historical information about hyperlinks shown on web pages. Initially, a computer receives user instructions to download an internet web page, and begins the download. The computer identifies any hyperlinks present in the web page, and for each hyperlink, analyzes the hyperlink with respect to any of the user's past visits to the hyperlinked address. Analysis is performed with the following steps. First, the computer determines whether the user has previously selected that hyperlink, such by "mouse clicking" on the hyperlink. If so, the computer consults a database to identify characteristics of the underlying data obtained from past visits (or attempts) to the hyperlinked address. These characteristics are input into a presentation table to derive various enhanced presentation attributes for the hyperlink. The presentation table maps between each possible data characteristic and a corresponding enhanced presentation attribute. Presentation attributes may relate to text, graphics images, videos, sound, tactile sensations, etc. Ultimately, the computer displays the downloaded web page, each hyperlink with its enhanced presentation attributes.
Abstract:
A bit is provided in each Digital Video Disk memory sector header to indicate the type of information contained in the main data portion of the frame. A vector of video clips are stored on the DVD disk and the DVD drive examines the bit to determine whether to play a movie or to employ logic provided by the present invention that allows the DVD drive to determine which included video clip to play instead. The video clips may include cartoons, commercials, movie previews, etc. and the logic employed by the DVD drive allows for random or specific selections to be played at predetermined times, such as displaying a clip during the flipping process of a dual-sided DVD disk. Additionally, the method and apparatus may be applied to DVD disks to determine whether commercials are played before, after or during the movie or the movie is played commercial free.
Abstract:
A magazine for a plurality of removable disk drives. The magazine provides physical and electrical support for the disk drives, and includes a magazine backplane for electrically connecting to the disk drives, and a module connector for electrically connecting to a host computer, preferably at a backplane of the library. Preferably, the magazine also supports a connecting circuit for implementing a fibre channel arbitration loop and intelligent hub for reconfiguring the fibre channel arbitration loop if one or more of the disk drives fails.
