Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide initialization technique in a disk array by which a connection bottleneck between a storage controller and a disk drive can be eliminated. SOLUTION: A host system 2 transmits an input/output request to the storage device 4 via a storage subsystem 6 that manages access to the storage device 4. The storage device has hard disk drives 8a, 8b, 8c, to 8n, the storage subsystem 6 has a host bus adaptor (HBA) 10 and a PCI/Raid adaptor that enable communication with the host 2 and is further provided with a controller 20 that executes a code 22 in an EEPROM. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, a system, and a program for improving the performance and data throughput by improving a cache hit, i.e., a readout request returned from a cache. SOLUTION: A method, a system, and a program for caching data are disclosed. Data from a volatile memory element or a device such as a nonvolatile storage device are held in entries in the cache. The time when each cache entry is accessed last and the frequency of access to each cache entry are indicated by variables.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, a system, a program, and data structure for selecting a pass at least to either one of two controllers. SOLUTION: Pass information indicating a desirable controller to be used for accessing respective storage areas is received from a controller. An input/ output(I/O) command sent to a target storage area is sent to a controller indicated as the desirable controller for the target storage area in the pass information. The pass information to the storage area controller for providing an access to a storage area is encoded by information for specifying one controller as a desirable controller and the other controller as an undesirable controller. The encoded pass information is returned to a request side computer. The request side computer sends the I/O command to the desirable controller at first, and when the desirable controller can not execute the I/O command, sends the I/O command to the undesirable controller.
