Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for separating a signal from a mixture of a 1st source signal related to a 1st source and a 2nd source signal related to a 2nd source.
SOLUTION: Two signals are obtained first which represent two mixtures of the 1st source signal and 2nd source signal. Those two signals and at least one known statistical characteristic related to the 1st and 2nd sources are used and the 1st source signal is separated from the mixtures in a nonlinear signal domain without the need to use a reference signal.

Abstract: A fast vocabulary independent method for spotting words in speech utilizes a preprocessing step and a coarse-to-detailed search strategy for spotting a word/phone sequence in speech. The preprocessing includes a Viterbi-beam phone level decoding using a tree-based phone language model. The coarse search matches phone-ngrams to identify regions of speech as putative word hits, and the detailed search performs an acoustic match at the putative hits with a model of the given word included in the vocabulary of the recognizer.
