    Abstract: APPARATUS FOR IMPROVING THE RADIAL HOMOGENEITY OF AXIAL MAGNETIC FIELDS of the Invention Apparatus for improving the radial homogeneity of axial magnetic fields obtained between polefaces is provided which includes a plurality of magnetic field generating means each located between said polefaces and at the outer end of equal length radii extending from the central axis of said polefaces. The plurality of magnetic field generating means are energized so that the magnetic lines of flux created thereby will be in the same direction as the magnetic lines of flux created by the polefaces. The magnetic field generating means are positioned with respect to said polefaces so that the magnetic lines of flux created thereby are minimal at the center of said polefaces and increase away from the center thereof, thereby compensating for magnetic field drop-off away from the central axis of the polefaces.

    Abstract: NMR MAGNET ASSEMBLY WITH POLE FACE PARALLELISM ADJUSTMENT A nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) magnet assembly includes two pole faces spaced to provide a gap in which is established a uniform magnetic field. The pole pieces have pole faces that are flat and parallel. The pole pieces are mounted on support plates one of which is fixed and the other of which is movable about a pivot point with two degrees of freedom of movement in response to adjustment of two adjustable mechanisms. Each adjustment mechanism includes a differential screw that produces a transverse movement and a longitudinally inclined pin or pins that translates such transverse movement into a much greatly reduced longitudinal movement. The combination of a differential screw and inclined pin provides a very fine adjustment of the parallelism of the pole faces. Each mechanism further includes means for providing a coarse adjustment.

    Abstract: Homogenous radial intensity of magnetic fields is obtained by compensation for the change in intensity from the centre of the outside of the field produced by polar pieces, and can be used in nuclear magnetic resonance equipment. It has a winding (17) which is placed between the polar pieces of a magnetic field generator. The winding (17) has two coils (16,18). Each coil has one or several conductors, or it may be a printed circuit conductor. Each coil (16,18) has its length made-up of a conductor which is situated next to the similar conductor of the other coil, such that a common magnetic field is produced. The coils (16,18) are positioned with their length perpendicular to the axis of the polar pieces. The winding (16,18) is excited by an adjustable d.c. supply. The supply circuit has a variable potentiometer (24) and a battery (20).
