Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a necessary desktop space by connecting one of both end parts of a multi-conductor cable to a media console with the other end part connected to a system unit respectively. SOLUTION: A computer 10 includes a media console 16 which is connected to a system unit/processor 18 via a multi-conductor flexible cable 20. The console 16 includes a floppy disk drive 22, a CD-ROM drive 24, a power ON/OFF switch 26, a status indicator 28 and an input device port and can be set on a desk placed near a monitor 12. The system unit 18 contains all bulky component elements which produce the sounds with high power and has no need to have a dialog with its user and can be set under the desk. Then a drive bay housing 30 containing both drives 22 and 24 moves between its opened and closed positions.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the necessary desktop space by transferring the data to a direct access storage device from an extended bus via a cable, etc., when the bus cycle is set to the direct access storage device. SOLUTION: A computer 10 includes a media console 16 which is connected to a system unit/processor 18 via a multi-conductor flexible cable 20 and is separated from a CPU, a hard rive and a power supply which are contained in the individual system unit 18 of media component elements (e.g. a floppy disk drive 22, etc.). The drive 22 can serve as a removable medium DASD(direct access storage device) which can receive, store and transmit the data by means of a diskette. When the bus cycle is set to the DASD, the data are transferred to the DASD from an extended bus via a cable and a 2nd interface.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the required desk top space and to obtain an easy and user-friendly access to a madia device making the opening of a direct access storage device accessible in open position and making the opening part of the direct access storage device inaccessible in closed position. SOLUTION: A drive bay housing 30 housing a floppy disk drive 22 and a CD-ROM drive 24 is moved between the open position and the closed position. At the time of the open position, a user performs access to the opening part of the floppy disk drive 22 or the CD-ROM drive 24 or both of them so as to respectively insert/remove a floppy or a compact disk at need. On the contrary at the time of the close position, the opening parts of the floppy disk drive 22 and the CD-ROM drive 24 are hidden by the front pannel of a base member so as to be inaccessible.
