    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for determining the ballpark position of a mobile wireless unit. SOLUTION: This system shares a computer 9 and a database 10 which is especially defined between plural switching station 5 for servicing many base stations 4 for mobile wireless unit, and the base station 4 services many antennas and transmitting/receiving sites in a cellular area previously defined. A measurement result of signal intensity in the base station 4 is transmitted to the shared computer 9 via the switching station 5. The computer 9 calculates a practical small area for search using that measurement result if the user of the mobile wireless unit needing a support is helpless to determine its own position. Thus calculated area and database supply thus calculated detailed mapping to an emergency support center for processing information. In the mapping, specified features topography, building, signal, etc., used in a query to narrow down the communicator's position into a small part are emphasized.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to reproduce short parts of a message containing terms that respective representations show without reproducing the message of a part longer than a part that needs to be heard actually by displaying symbols representing the continuity of respective sounds along a time scale in response to the detection of the continuation of the sound. SOLUTION: The voice mail system 1, a display device 2, and a means 4 for displaying a graph 11 of a reproduction elapsed time are provided. Further, a speech recognition means 12 for recognizing a limited vocabulary of words is provided. This speech recognition means 12 operates in temporal connection with a generating means 4 for a signal indicating the elapsed time and generates a signal for displaying a print character corresponding to a voiced number at a 3-hour position corresponding to the point of time when the voice of the word representing respective numbers is detected on a reproduction elapsed time time graph 11. Therefore, the user can speedily confirm a message without reproducing and hearing a message that is more than required.

    Abstract: A method for providing configurable access to media in a media-on-demand system also can include delivering the media to a first client device in a format compatible with the first client device; interrupting the delivery of the media; recording a bookmark specifying a position in the media where the interruption occurred; and suming delivery of the media to a second client device, the resumed delivery beginning at a position in the media specified by the recorded bookmark. The method further can include identifying device properties for each of the first and second client devices; delivering the media to the first client device in a format compatible with the identified device properties for the first client device; and, delivering the media to the second client device in a format compatible with the identified device properties for the second client device.
