Abstract:
Systems and methods for monitoring high-speed network traffic via sequentially multiplexed data streams. Exemplary embodiments include a switch module system, including a first switch module configured to be coupled to a first server chassis, a first data port disposed on the first switch module and a set of first port data links configured to be coupled to a set of data port data links, each data link configurable to channel at least one of a normal data stream and a monitored data stream.
Abstract:
A system and method for thresholding system power loss notifications in a data processing system are provided. Power loss detection modules are provided in a data processing system having one or more data processing devices, such as blades in an IBM BladeCenter® chassis. The power loss detection modules detect the type of infrastructure of the data processing system, a position of a corresponding data processing device within the data processing system, and a capability of the data processing system to provide power during a power loss scenario. The detection module detects various inputs identifying these types of data processing system and power system characteristics and provides logic for defining a set of behaviors during a power loss scenario, e.g., behaviors for sending system notifications of imminent power loss. The detection of the various inputs and the defining of a set of behaviors may be performed statically and/or dynamically.
Abstract:
A method for reconfiguring a storage array comprises supplying a data storage and retrieval system comprising (N) data storage device assemblies, wherein each of those (N) data storage device assemblies comprises (M) data storage devices, wherein (N) is greater than or equal to 2, and wherein (M) is greater than or equal to 2. The method configures those (N) data storage device assemblies to comprise a spare data storage device assembly and a first storage array comprising the remaining (N-1) data storage device assemblies. In the event a failed data storage device disposed in the first storage array is detected, then the method forms a second storage array comprising the first storage array, except the failed data storage device, in combination with a data storage device disposed in the spare data storage device assembly.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that it is required to carry out diagnosis operation on a drive without disrupting access to the rest of a disc array or to a network. SOLUTION: The storage system includes a RAID adapter, a disc array switch, a sub-processor, and a hard disc drive (HDD). The system can isolate a suspected faulty HDD to allow diagnostic to be carried out without impacting operation of the rest of the system. If a possible fault is detected in a target HDD, a private zone including one of the object HDD or the sub-processor is established, and the target HDD is isolated. After carrying out diagnostic operation of the sub-processor, its result is sent to the adapter. In such manner, a faulty HDD can be completely isolated, and when the private zone is disassembled, the sub-processor can join the network. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that it is necessary to reconfigure a drive, and generate an efficient parity with less necessary adapter resources and less fabric bandwidth. SOLUTION: The storage system includes a RAID adapter, a plurality of disc array processors managing a corresponding set of RAID storage drives, and a connection fabric. The RAID adapter starts a parity generating operation, parallel commands are dispatched to the array processors such that a partial parity value is respectively generated from each data block on a drive of each managed RAID storage drive, the partial parity value is received by the RAID adapter from each array processor, and the partial parity values are combined by the RAID adapter to generate a complete parity value. The parity value may be an actual parity block to be stored in a hard disc drive, or may be a reconstructed data block in the event of a failed drive. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
Provided are a method, system, and article of manufacture for determining modified data in cache for use during a recovery operation. An event is detected during which processing of writes to a storage device is suspended. A cache including modified data not destaged to the storage device is scanned to determine the data units having modified data in response to detecting the event. The data units having the modified data is indicated in a backup storage. The indication of the data units having the modified data in the backup storage is used during a recovery operation.
