A technique for establishing a logical path between two servers in a coordinated timing network of processing environment is provided. The technique includes the exchange of command and response message pairs by a server and an attached server, via a physical link. The server transmits a command message to an attached server to establish a server-time-protocol(STP) logical path and receives a response from the attached server. The technique also includes the server receiving a request transmitted by the attached server to establish an STP logical path to the server and transmitting a response to the attached server s request. A logical path between the server and the attached server is established if the attached server s response indicates that the server s request was accepted bythe attached server and if the server s response indicates that the attached server s request was accepted by the server.

Gemäß einer Ausführungsform werden ein Verfahren, ein Computersystem und ein Computerprogrammprodukt zum Vernetzen von Computern bereitgestellt. Se proporciona una técnica para establecer una ruta lógica entre dos servidores en una red de temporización coordinada del ambiente de procesamiento. La técnica incluye el intercambio de pares de comandos y mensajes de respuesta por medio de un servidor y un servidor adjunto, mediante un enlace físico. El servidor transmite un mensaje de comando a un servidor adjunto para establecer una ruta lógica del protocolo de temporización del servidor (STP, por sus siglas en inglés) y recibe una respuesta del servidor adjunto. La técnica también incluye que el servidor reciba una petición transmitida por el servidor adjunto para establecer una ruta lógica del STP al servidor y transmitir una respuesta a la petición del servidor adjunto. Se establece una ruta lógica entre el servidor y el servidor adjunto sí la respuesta del servidor adjunto indica que la petición del servidor fue aceptada por el servidor adjunto y sí la respuesta del servidor indica que la petición del servidor adjunto fue aceptada por el servidor.
