Abstract: The steel type band moves in front of the rectangular, block-shaped printing platen over which passes the paper web to be printed. The band has a track of individual type symbols below which are located the timing tracks. The impact surfaces on the platen has on its front and rear sides, layes made of bearing material esp. lead bronze against which the printing hammers impact the printing type on the type band. The use of such a platen markedly increases the service lift of the type band and improves print quality by offering uniform frictional characteristics.

Abstract: ELECTROMAGNETIC ACTUATOR MECHANISM A clapper armature is pulled into an operating gap of an electromagnet having three pole faces. Two pole faces extend along a length of the clapper armature. The third pole face opposes a major surface of the armature. As the armature is initially pulled into the gap by the magnetic flux extending between the two pole faces the armature becomes increasingly attracted to the third pole face.

Abstract: The continuous type belt (3) is arranged round two rollers (25), one of which is driven. One straight section of the type belt (3) contacts over its entire length the support designed as a platen (23). In order to avoid grooves on the platen (23) caused by the rotating type belt (3), and to achieve a distribution of other kinds of wear of the platen (23) over its circumference, a gear motor (27) causes the platen (23) to rotate very slowly (approximately 1 revolution in 72 hours). The platen (23) can also be rotated without gear motor. For this purpose, the longitudinal axis of the platen (23) is slightly inclined relative to the edge of the type belt (3). This inclination effects a small movement component in the direction of the platen circumference while the type belt (3) slides along the lateral surface of the platen (23), said component causing a slow revolution of the platen (23).
