Abstract: The invention relates to a method and system for managing virtual network ports on a physical server (10) to provide a virtual server (20) access to a group of storage resources (110) through a network (100) and comprises the steps: generating a storage access group (SAG) (60) representing a group of storage resources (110); executing a hypervisor (14) on the physical server (10); generating a virtual server (20) on said hypervisor (14); for the virtual server (20) activating access to said network (100). A management console (70) creates and manages the storage access group (60) providing access to the group of storage resources (110) for the virtual server (20) the physical servers (10, 12). The management console comprises a virtual server management facility (72) and a SAG facility (74). The virtual server management facility (72) manages virtual server definitions and activates, deactivates, migrates virtual servers (20, 22). The SAG facility (74) provides management of virtual network port descriptions (60), administration of network port names (WWPN1, WWPN2) and creates, activates and deactivates virtual network ports (40). The SAG represents a group of storage resources, virtual servers requiring access to the storage resources and network ports required to access the storage resources.

Abstract: A method for executing application programs written in a high level program language on tightly coupled multiprocessor systems in a Multiple Instruction/Multiple Data (MIMD) environment includes the steps of: initializing a MIMD environment in a data processing system by a call to an initialization routine from an application program; maintaining the MIMD environment until all independently executable portions of the application program have been executed; scheduling execution of those tasks representing independently executable portions of the application program; synchronizing execution and completion of the tasks until all tasks have completed execution; terminating the MIMD environment on completion of all the tasks.
