Abstract: The application relates to a method for generating a tailored schema description of a web service from a predefined schema description of the web service, the predefined schema providing a machine readable description of operations performed by the web service and. a message format for communication with the web service. The method comprises identifying 105 an operation of the web service to be supported by the tailored schema and, for the identified operation, providing at least one example message 110. A subset of the predefined schema required to support an identified operation is calculated 115 based on the at least one example message. A tailored schema is then generated 120 based on the calculated subset of the predefined schema. Generating the tailored schema may comprise editing the predefined schema based on the calculated subset. The machine readable definition may comprise a web service description language (WSDL).
