    Abstract: A means for increasing the amount of data that can be stored and retrieved within the memory of a data processing system using data compression. Data is generated that is to be stored in the RAM memory, then compressed with a memory controller in the data processing system and then stored in the RAM memory. When the data needs to be retrieved, the compressed data is retrieved from the RAM memory, decompressed within the memory controller and then forwarded.

    Abstract: A network computer is configured to assume a low power state in response to a low power event and further configured to transition from the low power state to a full power state in response to a wake up event, which may comprise a LAN wake up in the form of a command issued by a server computer coupled to the network computer via a network. The wake up event may be a LAN wake up event in which a wake up signal is received via the network interface, or a "wake on ring" event in which the wake up signal is received via a modem connection to the computer. Alternatively, an on/off button may signal full/low power. The motherboard is powered via a single power supply plane. Also disclosed is a boot code validity check, creation of a boot code image, and an integrated network interface.
