    Abstract: The method is applicable to a disk drive data storage system of the type including at least one disk surface and at least one transducer head for reading and/or writing data to a respective disk surface. A set of data recovery procedures is stored. When a read back error is detected in a read back data signal, a set of predetermined transducer head and disk parameters is identified. One of the stored data recovery procedures is selected responsive to the detected read back error and the identified predetermined transducer head and disk parameters.
