Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system, a method, and a computer program for performing verification by reading information out of the data track and servo track of a cleaner tape by a tape drive when an input/output converter of the tape drive is cleaned. SOLUTION: A positive cleaning front coat section of the cleaner tape is used in order to provide a cleaning action and also provide cleanness of a data reading element, a data writing element, and a servo head. A cleaning section with small abrasiveness can be used in order to remove not so tough dirt. In this method, cleanness of the data reading element, data writing element, and servo head is verified. In a leading section of a self-characterizing section, the cleaning section is usable. In an alternative method, a data tape section may be included for self-characterizing. Abstract:
An electrical connection of a transfer station (100) releasably, repeatably electrically couples with respect to a matching connection of a portable cartridge (40). A substrate (50) in the portable cartridge has electrical contacts (51) on a facing surface. In the transfer station, a matching circuitized flexible substrate (136) has electrical contacts (141) on a facing surface thereof, which are arranged to match the portable cartridge electrical contacts when in a face-to-face relationship. An elastomeric compression element (132), at the rear of the matching substrate, has individual protruding compression members contacting the rear surface and registered with corresponding individual electrical contacts. Elongated electrical contacts are registered with two adjacent individual compression members. A loader engages the portable cartridge, registering the cartridge substrate contacts in face-to-face relation with the matching flexible substrate electrical contacts, and exerting a normal force to the cartridge to compress the compression element and create non-wiping contact between the facing electrical contacts.
Abstract:
A record medium, such as a magnetic tape, optical disk, magnetic disk, and the like stores data signals and error redundancy signals. Resynchronization signals are interleaved between the recorded signals such that the error redundancy signals are usable to correct signals recorded between such interposed resynchronization signals wherein no error redundancy signals are recorded. Error pointing redundancy signals are recorded between all of the resynchronization signals for pointing to signals in error for enhancing the error correction. Such error pointing signals can be cyclic redundancy check (CRC) signals. Controls for taking advantage of the above-described arrangement are also described. Reframing and clock synchronization controls are also disclosed.
