    Abstract: A pair of transistors are connected to opposite ends of the magnet coil to be energized. A control pulse directly turns one transistor on and simultaneously fires a single shot multivibrator and its output turns on the other transistor. Current builds up in the coil during the single shot multivibrator time out period. The transistor controlled by the single shot multibivrator turns off when the single shot multivibrator times out. Coil current decreases but at slow rate as it circulates from one side of the power supply through a diode connected to one end of the coil and through the transistor connected to the other end of the coil back to the same side of the power supply. The dropping of the control pulse turns off the other transistor and the coil current rapidly decays to zero because the power supply is connected across the coil in a reverse direction via another diode connected to the other end of the coil and the other side of the power supply.

The integrator includes push-pull Darlington stages, which act as alternately conducting controlled current sources for split deflection coils outside the integrator feedback loop.     Abstract: A control system for a stepping motor operating on the bang-bang principle in which opposing torque is exerted on the rotor of the motor as the rotor oscillates across its desired or home position. The degree of rotation of the rotor is indicated by a digital encoder, and associated circuitry or microprogramming provides a return torque on the rotor for a predetermined time, such as 120 microseconds, if the rotor oscillates across and beyond its desired position less than that amount required to produce an output pulse of the encoder. If the degree of oscillation is greater so that one but not two encoder pulses is produced, return torque is maintained until an encoder pulse is received after the rotor has reversed direction, and then no torque is applied on the rotor. If the oscillation is greater than that required to produce two encoder pulses but less than three encoder pulses, reverse torque is maintained on the rotor until the rotor returns to a rotative position corresponding to one encoder pulse. Then a torque is applied onto the rotor in the same direction as that in which the rotor initially rotated limited however to 120 microseconds duration. There is an overlap of torques between the two and one encoder pulse positions of the rotor as it returns to its home position. For oscillations of the rotor greater than those mentioned, similar applications of torque are made, so that the rotor is eventually brought to its home position.

    Abstract: CONTROL SYSTEM FOR FLEXIBLE DISK FILE Control information for a flexible magnetic disk storage assembly is recorded on the periphery of the disk in a region not used for recording data. The control information is read through the protective cover or envelope which encloses the disk by means of a magnetic transducer such as a four track audio cassette head which bears against the envelope. By recording index and sector pulses as part of the control information, hard sectoring can be inexpensively and accurately achieved. A recorded fixed frequency control signal can be read and used as part of the feedback loop in a phase locked oscillator used to control a d.c. motor driving the spindle. The control information can also include servo tracks which assist in registering the data transducer directly over data tracks on media which has changed its dimensions.
