Abstract: 1,045,823. Magnetic switches. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. March 29, 1965 [April 28, 1964], No. 13163/65. Heading H2B. A multipole manual switch comprises a permanent magnet 40 slidable in a channel 32 between two extreme positions in one of which it closes a sealed magnetic contact unit 38 and opens a similar unit 37 and in the other of which it closes unit 37 and opens 38. The magnet is movable at an angle to the contact units so that in the centre position one of the reeds of one unit shunts flux away from the operative air gaps. The contact units 37, 38 are mounted in recesses 28, 30 of one half 11 of the switch body, and two further units are mounted in recesses in the other identical half 10 of the body. A lever 46, pivotally mounted in recesses such as 23 in the body halves 10 and 11, bears on the magnet 40 which is biased up. wardly by spring 44 and is actuated by a dolly 22 pivoted in a bracket 18 clipped to the switch body. The dolly is guided in a resilient detent which is designed either to ensure that it cannot dwell between its extreme positions (Fig. 4, not shown) or to provide a centre position (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown) in which all the contact units are open. The dolly may be replaced by a pushbutton which is retractable by the spring 44.
