A method, data processing system and program product for providing a location sensitive user interface by acquiring a geographic location of the portable data processor and selecting a user interface environment associated with the acquired location of the portable data processor. The selected user interface environment is activated as the user interface environment of the portable data processor. The portable data processor may also determine if it is in motion. A user interface environment associated with the portable data processor being in motion is then selected and activated. Location sensitive data may also be provided based upon the acquired location of the portable data processor. The location of the portable data processor may be acquired from an automated position sensing system.

A method, data processing system and program product for providing a connection from a portable data processor to a second data processor by acquiring a geographic location of the portable data processor and selecting a connection technique and/or a connection path associated with the acquired location of the portable data processor. The portable data processor then connects to the second data processor utilizing the selected connection technique and/or connection path. The connection technique and/or connection path may be selected from a plurality of connection techniques and/or connection paths which may be prioritized.

SOLUTION: In the method for connecting the portable data processor to the second data processor, the data processing system and a program product, a geographical location of the portable data processor is acquired and connection technology and/or connection route associated with the acquired location of the portable data processor is selected to perform the connection. The portable data processor is connected to the second data processor by using the next selected connection technology and/or connection route. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user interface which suppresses the complexity of operation on a portable data processor. SOLUTION: The geographic position of the portable data processor is found 50 and user interface environment corresponding to the found position of the portable data processor is selected 54. The selected user interface is started as the user interface environment of the portable data processor. Such a judgement may be made even while the portable data processor is moving. Therefore, the user interface corresponding to the portable data processor in movement is selected and started. Further, position sense data may be provided according to the found position of the portable data processor. Further, the position of the portable data processor may be found by an automatic position determining sensor system.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technique for preparing viewer specified view of a document. SOLUTION: A method, a system and a computer program product which prepare viewer specified view of a document (including an e-mail message, a document of text base, a document or message including a plurality of media such as a text, an image, a sound file) are provide. A document (or message) writer designates document selection sections and allocates attributes to the sections. These attributes include receivers having the sections in self-view and further designate attributes such as a background color and a font used when a section is displayed, whether or not the section is subjected to copy protection, whether or not the section is transferred or printed, whether or not the section is enciphered before being transferred or stored, whether or not the section is subjected to rendering by sound or video or whether or not the section is subjected to rendering in a virtual reality world.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply connect a portable data processor to a 2nd data processor by acquiring the geographical location of the portable data processor and selecting a connection technology and/or connection path relating to the location. SOLUTION: A portable data processor 10A acquires at first the geographical location of the portable data processor 10A and selects the connection technology and/or connection path relating to the location acquired by the processor 10A. The processor 10A discriminates it that the processor 10A is in existence in a location possible for connection to a local area network 20 based on the acquired geographical location. Then the selected connection technology is used and the processor 10A is connected to the 2nd data processor 22 via a hub 28.

Systems, methods and computer program products are provided for building and displaying dynamic graphical user interfaces (GUIs) that can be updated automatically without requiring code-level modification and recompiling. In response to a request to display a particular GUI on a computer display, an Extensible Markup Language (XML) data group is selected from a plurality of XML data groups and an XML display layout is selected from a plurality of XML display layouts. The selected XML data group includes one or more aggregations of data hierarchically ordered within the selected XML data group. XML data items are hierarchically ordered within each of the aggregations of data. The selected XML display layout contains one or more areas that define respective GUI display spaces within which XML data items from the respective aggregations of data can be displayed. XML markup tags associated with each aggregation of data within the selected XML data group are matched with XML markup tags associated with a respective area contained within the selected XML display layout. The XML data items contained within each aggregation of data are rendered in hierarchical order within a respective GUI display space defined by a respective area within the XML display layout.

Systems, methods and computer program products are provided for initializing, via a computer operating system, graphical user interface (GUI) controls for an application program running within the computer operating system GUI. An Extensible Markup Language (XML) document associated with the GUI control is retrieved via initialization code stored within the computer operating system. The XML document includes at least one string of text that indicates how the GUI control is to be displayed within the GUI. The retrieved XML document is parsed by the computer operating system to identify each string of text contained therewithin. The GUI control is then initialized within the GUI using each identified string of text.
