Each word in a matrix associative memory has a unique address field. Each word in the transistorized memory has an erasable data field and a read-only address field, the address fields specifying the word locations and thus being all different. An input register has a data field and an address field, and by masking off one of them an associative search may be done on the data fields or the address fields, the matching word or words being read out to an output register. The output register also receives an indication of the number of matches (0, 1 or a plurality) provided by logic fed by the output of the address fields since in the case of more than one match at least one address bit position will be indicated as being both 1 and 0 (on separate lines) and in the case of no match any particular bit will not be indicated as being either.

The invention is a priority assigning tree circuit having two arrays of priority assigning modules. In the module of Fig. 1, provided module go-ahead line GB1 is energized, the leftmost one of demand lines A1, A2 . . . which is energized causes energization of a respective go-ahead line GA1, GA2 . . . by a corresponding AND gate 101, 102 . . . the leftmost energized demand line blocking all AND gates to the right simultaneously via a respective inverter 107, 108 . . . The demand signals are ORed at 106 to feed a module demand line B1. Other similar modules using ORINVERT and AND-INVERT gates to give demand and/or go-ahead signals in inverse form are described. In a tree of modules, each as above, the module demand and module goahead lines of the modules in one level of the tree are connected to demand and go-ahead lines of the module or modules of the next higher level. The module demand and module go-ahead lines of the (only) module of the topmost level are connected together. The invention may be used for accepting computer input/output demands or interrupt demands according to a predetermined priority, or as a leftmost-1 circuit for zero suppression, or for directing incoming words to vacant registers in an associative memory.

    Abstract: In display screen or system technology, a window is a viewing area on the video display. It may be the full screen region or a smaller region represented within a border of typically rectangular shape into which data from application programs and the like may be written for display. One or more windows may appear on the face of a video display screen. In the context of the present invention, the window areas are of variable size selected by the operator and resizing of the regions or areas within each variable window must be modified to suit the newly selected window size. Attributes associated with the regions to be placed within a given window include those for relative priority of display within the window, location within the window and the minimum dimensions of each region to be included within the window. Program controlled operations examine the minimum specifications for the regions to be displayed within a window in comparison with the operator-selected window size in which the regions are to be displayed, and aportion the available window space among the regions to be displayed in accordance with their relative priority and location in the window and their specified minimum sizes, and generate the control parameters necessary for recreating the window display with the appropriate regional spaces allocated and located within the window.
