Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a graphical user interface for displaying a plurality of icons, which includes a desktop for conceptually providing thereby a three- dimensional surface for the icons. SOLUTION: The surface is represented on a two-dimensional display, and navigation for a desktop is supported by simulating rotation of the desktop in a three-dimensional space. The desktop is displayed in an apparent distance from a user's view point, and the respective icons are displayed in respective apparent distances based on the apparent distance and respective positions of the plurality of icons on the three-dimensional surface. Each of the plurality of icons is scaled by the related apparent distance to change the apparent distance between the view point and the desktop.

Abstract: A method for installing software applications on a mobile computing device comprises monitoring a position of the mobile computing device, selecting one or more software applications available to be installed on the mobile computing device according to the location of the mobile computing device, and installing the selected software applications in a dedicated container of the mobile computing device providing an execution environment for the selected software applications with controlled or restricted access to one or more resources of the mobile computing device. In this way the external execution environment including personal data is protected from access by temporary apps installed for example in shops, museums and the like.

Abstract: A graphical user interface system for displaying a plurality of icons, whereby the system further comprises a desktop which conceptually provides a three-dimensional surface for the icons. The surface is represented on a two-dimensional display device and navigation of the desktop is supported by simulating a rotation of the desktop in three-dimensional space. Furthermore, the desktop is viewed at an apparent distance from a user viewpoint and each of the plurality of icons are viewed at a viewing distance based on the apparent distance and location of each of the plurality of icons on the three-dimensional surface. Additionally, each of the plurality of icons are scaled by the relevant viewing distance and the apparent distance between the viewpoint and the desktop can be changed.
