Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the storage, trace, common use, automation of distribution and optimization of spoken language vocabulary data by transmitting each of the fresh words added to a central vocabulary list to another client and adding the same into a cache. SOLUTION: When a client 14 adds a fresh word, this word is transmitted from a word pronunciation addition tool 34 via a network 20 to a word pronunciation server 12 and is added to a universal vocabulary list 24. When the client 16 is dictating or starts dictating, a universal vocabulary server program 22 reads the user profile to the client 16 out of a user profile table 26. If the client 16 already performs dictation, the fresh word is transferred to the client 16 and is added to a local vocabulary list cache 36. If the client 16 starts the dictation, the vocabulary list made discrete is transferred to the client 16 and is stored in the local vocabulary list cache 36.

Abstract: A network spoken language vocabulary system for a speech application comprises: a network server (12) and a plurality of network clients (14, 16, 18) communicating with one another over a network; a central vocabulary list (24) in the server for recognizable words; and a speech recognition engine (32) and a local vocabulary list cache (36) in each of the clients. The cache (36) has therein previously recognized words communicated from the central vocabulary list (24) in the server and new words recognized by the speech application. Each of the new words is communicated to the server and added to the central vocabulary list and each of the new words added to the central vocabulary list is communicated to at least one other of the clients for addition to the cache. The new words can be automatically communicated to and from the server.
