    Abstract: A reader for punched document cards having a slide for carrying a document card and movable manually against the action of a spring to put the document card in a pre-reading position, a governor for controlling the motion of the slide and document card in a return movement generated by the spring and a series of switches actuated by the punchings as the card returns under spring action to an initial position. One way clutch mechanism is associated with the governor so that the initial movement of the slide and document card may not be impeded by governor action. A latch operated by the slide is effective to prevent movement of the slide manually out of its initial position with no card in the reader, and the latch is negated in its action by a card in position so that the slide and card may be moved out of initial position.

    Abstract: An enclosure for a rigid disk data file is shown which includes a base casting (6) and a cover (24) that interface along a planar surface that is not perpendicular to the axis of the spindle supporting the data disks (8). The base casting (6) at one side extends axially along the disk stack and has the transducer positioning actuators mounted through openings therein. At the opposite side, the disk stack is fully exposed to permit easy access to the disk surface for procedures such as servo writing during manufacture of the drive. This structure makes possible concurrent operation of the product heads and servo writing heads.

    Abstract: The magnetic head actuator includes a substantially totally enclosed self-shielding voice coil linear motor which includes a continuous, cylindrical permanent magnet (18) of flexible material which is sealed against the inner cylindrical wall of the outer core (11) by a flared copper sleeve (29) that also serves as a non-magnetic, conductive shorted turn to reduce instantaneous inductance of the drive coil (35). An annular reluctance gap in the outer core provides symmetrical distribution of the permanent magnet flux.
