Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for constituting the information of a computer base for the purpose of display. SOLUTION: This method includes a step for assigning labels to the pieces of information preserved in a computer system or information units. The labels can be used for setting the display policies or display standards of the information units. A priory order sequence and group constitution and the other display preference can be accessed by a display controller, and a user who performs access to the computer system by using a display device is urged to use a display device whose screen is relatively small such as a telephone, pager, and PDA by the setting function of preference related with the display of the information units such as which information unit should be transmitted to the display device at first.

Abstract: In an electronic interactive information processing system with plural terminals, data is stored in the form of documents. An end user A can enter a request for a copy of a document, owned by an end user B, to be furnished when end user B initiates deletion of the document from the system. The request is stored in the system. On initiation of deletion of the document by end user B at a terminal, the request is retrieved and displayed at that terminal. End user B can then decide whether the request is to be honoured, and, if so, send a copy to end user A, who then becomes owner of that copy.

Abstract: A method of operating an electronic information processing system manages the retention and deletion of data, in the form of documents, in the system. The document is removed from the system only when a predetermined relationship exists between a current date and the two expiration dates.

Abstract: A uniquely programmed computer system, computer-implemented method, and computer readable memory embodying computer-readable detail logic direct a computer system to provide viewing and adjustment of the default state (i.e., operation) of a desktop icon. The default state is performed when the desktop icon is dropped on a target icon. Therefore, if the default state is "copy", then the selected object icon is automatically copied to the target object icon when the selected icon is dropped on the target icon. The computer-implemented method includes the steps of determining if a visual state indicator option is "ON" and, if so, drawing the desktop icon(s) on the display in such a manner as to indicate to the user/viewer the default state of the icon.
