Abstract: A method comprises receiving a search request from a user for a message file, such as an email attachment, based on a designated user, the search request being directed to a file storage system. A set of files associated with the designated user is identified S255, and a closeness relationship of each file to the designated user is determined S265. The files are ranked according to the closeness relationship S270, and the top-ranked message files are presented to the user S275. When an email is received, the name of the file, sender, recipient and/or time stamp may be recorded in an index table, and the files and recorded information may be presented in the form of a graph (600, Fig. 6). The graph may be traced between a relevant user and messages files to determine a degree of separation, and a closeness relationship may be expressed via a weighted value which is the inverse of the distance.
