    Abstract: A daisy wheel spring disc utilized in conjunction with a daisy wheel print element to control impression. Both the spring disc and the print element have radially extending petals. The print element petals carry a character adjacent their outer extremity. A spring disc petal is associated with each print element petal for which impression is to be controlled. The spring disc petals vary in length relative to the print element petals. The lengths of the spring disc petals depend upon whether the character on the associated print wheel petal has a large or small print surface area. During printing, the spring disc is positioned on the printing side of the print element. When a print element petal is driven out of the plane of the remaining print element petals during printing of a character, the associated spring disc petal will be contacted and will absorb a portion of the energy imparted to the print element petal.

    Abstract: In a signal storage apparatus employing a rotating record disk, the resonant frequency of a head carriage assembly is tuned to the rotational speed of the record disk. The head carriage assembly, in following a record track on the record disk, has to accommodate record disk rotational perturbations; i.e., run out, eccentric mounting, etc. Such variations are better accommodated in the head carriage assembly by electrically tuning the head carriage assembly to the rotation of the record disk. In a voice coil head assembly actuator, a pair of opposing coils carry equal current amplitudes. These equal current amplitudes are adjusted to rotational speed of the record disk to thereby continuously tune the head carriage assembly to the record disk rotation.

    Abstract: ELECTROMAGNATIC RAM ACTUATOR An electromagnetic ram actuator, in particular for impact printers, comprises at least one pair of substantially symmetrically designed yoke halves with magnetizable yoke legs, wherein the pole ends of the yoke legs facing each other form aligned operating gaps. A tongue-shaped ram is movable between the operating gaps in a direction coinciding with their line of alignment. The ram comprises armature bars of magnetizable material, each of which is associated with one operating gap. The volume of the armature bars is in each case of the order of the operating gap volume. The armature bars, in the original position of the ram, in the non-excited state of the electromagnet, are positioned external to the operating gaps, being pulled into them upon excitation of the electromagnet. The excitation coil of the electromagnet is slipped on to at least one yoke leg such that a substantial part of its windings extends between two adjacent yoke legs. Inside and/or outside the excitation coil there are several adjacent yoke legs of the same yoke half or adjacent yoke halves. (One such arrangement may be conceived of as being the result of yoke legs having been divided.) At constant external dimensions of the yoke halves, an increase in the force acting on the ram is obtained and a constant force permits reducing the overall height of the ram, respectively.

    Abstract: For producing a transducer access opening in a stack of rotating flexible magnetic record disks, a co-rotating part axially deflects the peripheral edges of selected disks for partially axially separating same. The co-rotating part may take the form of a thin disk, several thin disks, or shaped as a roll. The axis of the roll is obliquely inclined against the disk pack rotational axis. The roll has a resilient surface such that, after the roll has been inserted into the disk pack, the flexible disks move up the outer surface of the roll to be deflected.
