Abstract: A printer is disclosed in which a character forming print head is disposed on a carriage which pivots about a central point to describe an arcuate path, adjacent to which is situated an arcuate platen. The media to be marked upon conforms to the arcuate shape of the platen. The print head oscillates or reciprocates from one end of the arc to the other, and back. The arcuate path length may be varied to encompass printing in one or more coplanar stations on an arc in the plane of the print head and pivot.

Abstract: INTEGRAL PLATEN RIBBON CARTRIDGE An improved ribbon cartridge for containing a continuous web of inked ribbon or the like for a printing machine and including the printing platen as a part of the cartridge is described. The combined ribbon cartridge and platen is made of molded plastic and greatly reduces the overall cost of the printer mechanism by eliminating the expensive platen member as a separate element. Longer ribbon lift and lower noise levels of operation are also provided by forming the platen member in this fashion. .

Abstract: PRINTER RIBBON CASSETTE AND FEED MECHANISM . An improved, disposable inexpensive feed mechanism is uniquely incorporated in a cassette having a flexible or movable wall driven by contact with a moving printer carriage or the like. Friction facing of the moving wall cooperates with a fixed friction facing on an interiorly placed portion of a cassette wall with a ribbon between the two friction faces. The friction facing of the movable part has angled fiber elements that engage the ribbon in one direction but slip easily over the ribbon in the opposite direction. The moving printer carriage or the like contacts a movable portion of the cassette wall in each pass and indexes the ribbon slightly to provide a fresh supply across a platen. The platen may be integrally molded as a part of the cassette and can be made of plastic. The entire mechanism is disposable, is contained in a single clean package and is very low cost. No rollers, feed roll drives or motors are required.
