Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an adaptive access protocol by deciding the presence or absence of a hidden node. SOLUTION: If a source address (s) is not contained in a table after detection of a data frame, the address (s) is added to the table (1. 1). In any case, the status of the address (s) is written as 1 (1. 2) showing that the network nodes are included in the range of a node (n), and 0 sometimes shows that the network nodes are excluded out of the range of the node (n). If a destination address (d) of the frame is not contained in the table, the address (d) is added to the table (1. 3). In any case, the status of the address (d) is written as 0 (1. 4). Only the packet that is safely received is used to this algorithm in order to avoid such a case where a hidden node is identified when no ACK is transmitted due to a collision or a transmission error.

Abstract: An internetworking node for providing internetworking services for mobile wireless nodes. Each mobile wireless node is associated with at the most one internetworking node. Each mobile wireless node selects which internetworking node it will associate with. The internetworking node will then act for all wireless nodes associated to it in relaying messages between wireless nodes or between a wired Local Area Network (LAN) and the wireless nodes.

Abstract: One aspect of the invention provides a method of communication in a medium, for a communication network having a number of stations, using Medium Access Control protocol that incorporates quality of service capabilities wherein at least one of the stations is capable of generating a (repetitive) beacon for assigning priority levels for each priority station on the network, wherein a station, before transmitting information on the network, attempts to detect the presence of a beacon for the network, and if the presence of a beacon is not detected, adopts the status of a beacon and transmits a beacon message to other stations in the network. In another aspect of the invention interference is reduced in communication in a medium using carrier modulation, for a communication network having a plurality of stations, using access control protocol wherein at least one of the stations is capable of generating a control message (SOD) that can be transmitted to other stations on the network to change the method of modulation being used, wherein communication between stations in the network is being performed using a first modulation method, by initiating a change in the modulation method being used by sending a control message containing identification of a second modulation method to other stations to inform them of the second modulation method; allowing the other stations to change the modulation method used to the second modulation method. The control message further includes a direction to those other stations not changing modulation to the second modulation method to instruct them not to transmit using the first modulation method.

Abstract: The invention provides a method for communication between a plurality of stations in a communication network using media access protocol, in which medium access is granted to stations obtaining a successful reservation of the medium and in which data transmission verification is performed by the protocol within the reservatio n. In the method a station sends a request message on the communication medium for a reservation of the medium to a recipient station in the network. The recipie nt station sends a reservation confirmation message back to the sending station which receives it and responds to the reservation confirmation message by sending an ordered sequence of data frames to the recipient station. After sending the ordered sequence of data frames the sending station sends an end of transmission message to the recipient station, which replies by sending back an end of transmission confirmation identifying the number of frames received in their original sequence. If the number is n ot correct remedial action can be taken by the sending station to resend missing data. Address conflict resolution is also provided by another aspect of the invention. The invention has embodiments which handle unicast and groupcasting transmissions.
