Abstract: An alignment and transport roll made of flexible material has a curved cross-section and comprises a ring-like thicker outer circumferential part 6. By the item to be transported 75, e.g. thinner or thicker paper as for example from a passbook, the outer part 6 of the roll 1 is deflected in alignment direction. Upon rotation of the roll or movement of the paper the item is aligned and transported. The alignment force is generated in one and the same direction regardless of the direction of movement of the item. Such a roll can also be provided with a supporting structure 110 on one side to avoid alignment in the wrong direction when the roll flips over by deflection in the wrong direction. Roll and supporting structure or roll per se can be joint in a pair of rollers coacting with each other. Roll or roller pair can be used in any alignment unit. It is preferably used in a passbook printer to align the passbook for printing purposes and the purpose of reading the magnetic stripe on the passbook. The roll is versatile enough to cope with thinner and thicker material. It also can be used for aligning and transporting continuous forms. As flexible material for the roll castable plastic material like polyurethane with a hardness of 60 Share A may be used.

Abstract: The invention concerns a collector unit for products in the form of sheets, the collector unit having a drum (10), designed to guide the sheets round its curved surface (11), and one or more belts (15, 16, 17) which rest against the surface (11) of the drum and convey the sheets round the space between the belts and the drum. Openings (25, 26, 27) between the belts allow the sheets to be fed into and withdrawn from the unit. In addition, the unit is fitted with sensors (40, 41, 42) which determine the position of each sheet on the surface (11) of the drum, the position data being fed to a control unit in order to control the motion of the drum. The collector unit described enables both relatively thick and thin sheets to be collected reliably into bundles, fed in and taken out. Even sheets which tend to roll up or become stuck because of static charge, for instance, can be collected together to form a bundle. The sheets can be bundled continuously without the need to change the direction of rotation of the drum (10). In particular, it is easy to collect several sheets in a fanned bundle. The preferred application of the collector unit is in multiple-forms printers which produce simultaneously a statement of account and a transfer statement, for instance. Its construction enables it to be connected up to sheet-delivery equipment, e.g. printers or automatic cash dispensers.
