Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an SCSI (small computer system interface) enclosure service (SES) function for enabling accurate control/management of disk enclosure without impairing usability of a user. SOLUTION: The disk enclosure 21 is provided with a plurality of HDDs 6, an enclosure manager 24 for outputting control/management information of the disk enclosure 21 and S/P converters 30 to be provided corresponding to the respective HDDs 6, for serially converting control/management commands outputted from the HDDs 6 as parallel signals, for outputting the commands to the enclosure manager 24 and for parallely converting the control/ management information outputted from the enclosure manager 24. Thus, the SES function in an ESI system can be validated for a plurality of the HDDs 6 simply by providing a serial port 32 to the enclosure manager 24 and connecting the respective S/P converters 30 with the enclosure manager 24 by a serial bus 31.
