Abstract:
AN ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHIC DEVELOPMENT CARRIER COMPRISES CORE PARTICLES COATED WITH A FLUOROPOLYMER OR A MIXTURE OF A FLUOROPOLYMER AND A MODIFYING MATERIAL, WHEN UTILIZED WITH APPROPRIATE ELECTROSCOPIC TONER MATERIALS, THE CARRIER, WHICH IS COATED WITH THE MIXTURE OF THE FLUOROPOLYMER AND THE MODIFYING MATERIAL, IS EFFECTIVE IN PRODUCING A DESIRED POLARITY AND MAGNITUDE OF THE TRIBOELECTRIC CHARGE ON THE TONER PARTICLES, AND THE CARRIER, WHICH IS COATED WITH THE FLUOROPOLYMER, IS EFFECTIVE IN PRODUCING A TRIBOELECTRIC CHARGE OF A DESIRED MAGNITUDE ON THE TONER PARTICLES, CONTROL OF THE THE POLARITY AND MAGNITUDE OF THE TRIBOELECTRIC CHARGE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE THE CARRIER, WHICH HAS ITS PARTICLES COATED WITH THE MIXTURE OF THE FLUOROPOLYMER AND THE MODIFYING MATERIAL, IS OBTAINED BY HEATING THE COATED PARTICLES TO A SELECTED TEMPERATURE DEPENDING UPON THE DESIRED POLARITY AND MAGNITUDE AND THE PARTICULAR TONER WITH WHICH THE CARRIER IS USED, CONTROL OF THE MAGNITUDE OF THE TRIBOELECTRIC CHARGE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE CARRIER, WHICH IS COATED WITH THE FLUOROPOLYMER, IS OBTAINED BY CONTROLLING THE CURING CONDITIONS.
Abstract:
An image producing process of a document copier is controlled by means detecting a low average intensity of reflected light during initial stages of scan of an original being copied to produce a low density or light copy adjacent the leading edge of the copy sheet passing through the machine thereby minimizing paper feed difficulties associated with the passage of copy having a dense leading edge through a contact fuser.
Abstract:
AN ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHIC DEVELOPMENT CARRIER COMPRISING CORE PARTICLES COATED WITH A CARBOXYLATED POLYETHYLENE IONOMER. WHEN UTILIZED WITH APPROPRIATE ELECTROSCOPIC TONER MATERIALS, AND CARRIER, WITH IS COATED WITH A CARBOXYLATED POLYETHYLENE IONOMER IS EFFECTIVE IN PRODUCING A DESIRED POLARITY AND MAGNITUDE OF THE TRIBOELECTRIC CHARGE ON THE TONER PARTICLES. CONTROL OF THE POLARITY AND MAGNITUDE OF THE TRIBOELECTRIC CHARGE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE CARRIER, WHICH HAS ITS PARTICLES COATED WITH THE CARBOXYLATED POLYETHYLENE IONOMER IS OBTAINED BY CONTROLLING THE CURING TEMPERATURE OF THE CARBOXYLATED POLYETHLENE IONOMER.

1373000 Electrostatographic carriers INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 29 Dec 1971 [28 Jan 1971] 16972/74 Divided out of 1372998 Heading G2H [Also in Division B2] A coating of polytetrafluorethylene on electrostatographic carrier particles is cured by heating (e.g. to 780‹F) after which quenching is effected in water. The polytetrafluorethylene coating composition may contain a surface active agent, water and toluene. It may be applied by dipping, spraying, tumbling or fluidized bed treatment. The coating thickness may be 1-20Á. The carrier core material may be sand, glass or metal beads, or ferromagnetic material. It may have a particle size of 50-1,000Á.

1389744 Coated particles for electrophotographic developer INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 12 June 1972 [23 June 1971] 27302/72 Heading B2E An electrophotographic developer includes carrier particles and toner particles, the carrier particles each having an interior core portion and a surface layer which comprises at least a major portion of carboxylated polyethylene ionomer. The core may be of sand, glass, metal e.g. iron or steel, magnetic oxides and alloys, e.g. copper-nickel-iron. The coating may be applied to the particulate core material by dipping, spraying, tumbling the core material with a coating solution in a barrel, or by using a fluidised bed. The core material may be pre-treated with a primer, e.g. polyvinyl butyral resin, vinyl chloride terpolymer, polymethyl methacrylate. Other pre-treatments include cleaning, pickling and etching. Pigments and other polymers may be added to the ionomer coating to modify the triboelectric behaviour of the coating.
