Abstract: A video recorder wherein the magnetic tape is helically wound about a drum with the drum containing a magnetic record and playback head for recording and playing back video information on angularly disposed tracks on the video tape. The magnetic head scans a first semicircular portion of the tape while this portion of the tape is being held fixed by two vacuum brakes positioned at both ends of the semicircular portion. While the head is so scanning this first portion of the tape, pneumatic brakes at either end of the second semicircular portion of the tape are not actuated and this portion of the tape is moved longitudinally removing a slack portion between the first and second portions. As the head approaches the second portion of the tape, two vacuum brakes at either end of this portion are actuated so as to fix the second portion of the tape. While the magnetic head is scanning the second semicircular portion of the video tape, the two brakes at either end of the first semicircular portion are deactivated and this portion is moved longitudinally the distance between two tracks. The cycle then repeats and the head scans the next track.

Abstract: A changeable exhibitor, with or without keyboard structure, is rendered self-restoring by use of a flexible strip arranged to lie in a selectable looped position indicative of the data being exhibited or being entered into an associated data processing system. The strip is fixed adjacent its ends and overlies a series of aligned apertures in a base. The strip is longer than the distance between its fixed ends so that it will loop into one of the apertures, one being provided for each data bit. As a different part of the strip is looped by a stylus, depressible key, or the like, into a different one of the apertures to exhibit or enter a different data bit, the first loop is concurrently and automatically recalled. A plurality of parallel independently flexible strips are arranged as a matrix exhibitor/keyboard, and bands of alternate colors aid in visually distinguishing the entered data from the unentered data. Loops in flexible strips of metal can form part of a capacitive or magnetic coupling path from an interrogation means to a transducer.

Abstract: 1535467 Palm print identifier INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 19 April 1977 [21 May 1976] 16261/77 Heading G4R Palm print identifying device has a scanning probe carrying a transducer and arranged so that relative movement occurs between the probe and a palm to be identified by the device. The probe and transducer generate signals indicating the spacing of major palm lines during the relative movement. In one embodiment (Fig. 3) the palm is placed on a flexible sheet 54 on a plate 20 carrying several probes. The palm is located by a peg 25. Mounted to rotate about the peg under control of a motor 27 is a bar 26 carrying the probes. The probes may be rods which slide against sheet 22 or may be transparent rollers 30-33 rotatable about respective shafts. Each roller has an associated light source and detector. The source illuminates the inner surface of its respective roller at the point where it contacts the palm. When the roller passes over a palm line the air gap above the roller causes the roller to reflect the light to the detector. If a palm line is not present the light is scattered. The rollers may contact the skin directly. A rod may be used instead of several rollers. The sheet may be replaced by an endless web passing over two spaced rollers (Fig. 7, not shown). The support 46-49 for each roller carries markings which are read to determine the height of each roller as it passes over the palm. A sensor 41 reads markings indicating the position of bar 26 to determine the location of the palm lines. The locations of palm lines detected by selected rollers and the contour of the palm detected by selected rollers is compared with stored data (Fig. 11, not shown) to determine validity of the palm pattern.
