Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set focus only on the side of an object that a user is actually interested in by displaying only the paths of the tree structure from a movement point to the root of the tree structure and a non-leaf node in a tree display area after the non-leaf node is selected as the movement point. SOLUTION: After the non-leaf node is selected as the movement point, only the paths of the tree structure from the movement point to the root of the tree structure and the non-leaf node are displayed in the tree display area. After an object property is selected from a property list area showing the object properties of the tree structure, a non-leaf node as the direct parent node of a leaf node related to the selected object property is determined. Those non-leaf nodes are selected as movement points. A complete tree is concretely visualized in a tree display area 140 on a right lower panel. Movement points are selected on a right upper panel as to movement points, e.g. 141 to 143 and then movement boxes 110, 120, and 130 are displayed.

Abstract: Management of a workflow in a distributed computer environment comprising multiple interconnected sites (1A, 1B, 1C). Business process definitions implemented in the workflow system comprise a number of workflow objects, including activities which are to be processed sequentially or in parallel. Each workflow object (OBJ4) is associated to exactly one site (1A), the so called "owner site" (1A). Each owner site (1A) updates and/or modifies only the workflow objects (OBJ4) it owns. Ownership workflow objects (OBJ4) may be transferred of another site (1B, 1C) on request ("pull") or when said owner site (1A) determines a need for transfer to another site (1B, 1C) ("push"). All sites (1A - 1C) maintain information on which site (1A - 1C) currently owns which workflow object (OBJ1 -OBJ4). Transfers between sites may therefore be updated synchronously, whilst other sites are updated asynchronously. Workloads may be balanced using an algorithm and other sites may have read access.
