Abstract: In a computer server, acceleration data is acquired by a sensor 104. The sensors may be tri-axial micro-electromechanical sensors embedded in a motor drive assembly. The data is stored in the memory of a processor 103 embedded in a motor drive assembly 102. The data is analysed for degradation of a rotating device 111, such as a fan. The analysis may compare peak acceleration data, a fast Fourier transform of acceleration data or a Kurtosis of acceleration data with known good data. If degradation is detected, the speeds of moving components, such as fans, may be altered, a service request may be sent or the server may be shut down. The service request may be a pager or email message.
