Abstract:
Techniques for selectively off-loading workload across multiple data centers are disclosed. For example, a technique for processing a user request in accordance with a multiple data center environment comprises the following steps/operations. A user request is obtained at a first data center. The user request is classified based on one or more classification criterion. At least a portion of a workload associated with the classified user request is off-loaded to at least a second data center to be processed, wherein the off-loading step/operation is at least based on one or more administrative policies associated with at least one of the first data center and the second data center. The workload is processed such that the user request is at least substantially satisfied in accordance with a service level agreement for the requesting user.
Abstract:
A method, system and apparatus for on-demand application resource allocation. In accordance with the method of the invention, an anticipated workload can be compared to a measured capacity for an application cluster in one or more server computing nodes in a server farm. If the measured capacity warrants a re-configuration of the application clusters, a new placement can be computed for application server instances in individual ones of the server computing nodes. Subsequently, the new placement can be applied to the server computing nodes in the server farm. In this regard, the applying step can include starting and stopping selected ones of the application server instances in different ones of the server computing nodes to effectuate the new placement.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide users with a method for surely receiving data on a system from a web broadcast communication interface through a plurality of channels. SOLUTION: This method includes a step, where promotion meta data that are available for reception are received through a 1st web broadcast communication channel and at least part of the data is assembled into promotion offering data, a step where data to be received are selected in relation to the above data, a step where data are received from a 2nd web broadcast communication channel, a step where the data are selected from the promotion meta data and encrypted by using a 1st encryption key, and a step where a computer- readable medium receives a 1st encryption decoding key, and the decoding key is used to decode at least part of the encrypted data received from the 2nd web broadcast communication channel.

Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a decentralized process for ensuring the dynamic placement of application on a server based on two types of simultaneous resource requirements, those that are dependent on a load on the application and those that are independent. SOLUTION: A demand (load) for the application changes over time. The goal to satisfy all the demands while changing the solution (assignment of the application to the server) as little as possible. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a time for downloading by tuning a receiver, assembling received contents data through broadcast transmission of a selected frequency, and transferring the data to a player for reproducing the contents data after all the contents data are received. SOLUTION: A filtering module(FM) 4 is tuned to a specified digital channel and starts filtering a desired package packet from a multiplexed broadcast stream. This filtered data block is transmitted to a contents host emulator(CHE) 2 which reassembles the package. When reassembling and format of the package are excellently executed, the CHE 2 transmits the package to a player application 195.
Abstract:
Techniques for improving application server performance and availability are provided. In one aspect, a method of monitoring the health of one or more application servers comprises the following steps. One or more health classes are specified, each of the one or more health classes defining one or more health policies for the one or more application servers. At least one of the one or more health policies is monitored. Violations, if any, of the one or more health policies are detected.
Abstract:
Provides apparatus, systems and methods for coordinating tasks of performance management and application placement management in a dynamic fashion. An example process is dynamic in the face of fluctuations in the request load to the distributed computer system and the periodic adjustments to the placement of applications onto servers in said distributed computer system. There are two opposite functional flows in said process: a demand estimation function and a capacity adjustment function. The coordination system involves two subsystems: a demand estimator and a capacity adjuster, along with appropriate interfaces to of the performance manager and the application placement manager. This results in application placement process reacting quicker to demand fluctuations, performance guarantees are better met by rearranging the resources to be allocated to the various classes of service, and the management system works in an unsupervised mode, thus reducing manual administration costs and human errors.

Abstract:
A method for receiving digital content data on a user's system for playing or recording, the content data being compressed and encrypted with a first encrypting key, said method comprising the steps of: tuning a receiver to a selected frequency; receiving content data through a broadcast transmission at the selected frequency; assembling the content data that is received; and transferring the content data to a player for playing the content data after all the content data has been received. In accordance with another embodiment of the present invention, an information processing system and computer readable medium is disclosed for carrying out the above method.
