Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voice mail system corresponding to a notice of a message via the world wide web WWW. SOLUTION: A WWW client 310 makes communication with a WWW server 330 by using a WWW network 320 of the Internet to request the access to a voice mail of the user and a notice of the voice mail. The user enters a mail box number of the voice mail to start a proper hyper link. The WWW server starts an application and a message (MSG) client 350. An MSG server 370 returns information relating to all the voice mail messages in the mail box designated and displayed by the WWW client in response to the initial message of the MSG client. Furthermore, the MSG server 370 down-loads an applet to be executed by the WWW client 310. The applet makes communication with the voice mail system to provide a newest notice of a reception message.

Abstract: Using the Internet World Wide Web (WWW) network 320, a WWW Client 310 can communicate with a WWW Server 330 to request access to and notification of a user's voice mail. The user enters their voice mail mailbox number, and activates an appropriate hyperlink. The WWW Server then launches an application, MSG Client 350, which in turn communicates with an application, MSG Server 370, that runs in conjunction with the voice mail system 380, 385, 390. In response to an initial message from the MSG Client, the MSG Server returns information about all voice mail messages within the specified mailbox, which are displayed at the WWW Client. This display includes a hyperlink to each message in the mailbox. In addition, the MSG Server downloads an applet for execution on the WWW Client. This applet communicates with the voice mail system in order to provide up-to-date notification of incoming messages.

Abstract: The method comprises acquiring electronic information from a first smart card 21A; acquiring an electronic address from a second smart card 21B; and sending the information from the first smart card to the electronic address of the second card. This allows electronic information from one smart card to be sent to an e-mail location contained on another smart card without the e-mail location of the second smart card being manually entered by the card carrier. The method combines Smart Card technology, embedded systems and standard e-mail. The individual's personal details are carried in an applet on a smart card device such as a Java Ring (TM) or IButton (TM) or traditional Smart Card. Low-cost, network-attached readers 10 are provided in locations where business cards are normally exchanged. The act of inserting two Smart Card devices into the reader automatically starts up an application which reads the details (including the e-mail addresses) from the two cards. The application then e-mails the business card details of one participant to the e-mail address of the other, and vice versa. Optionally, a mail agent at the recipient's mail server automatically files the business card details in the correct place. Alternatively the recipient can file the e-mail in a special business contacts folder manually when next accessing his/her e-mail.

Abstract: The disclosure concerns a method of processing Internet telephony messages at gateway computer 10 such as an IBM RISC/6000 system, comprising the steps of: receiving an Internet telephony message in a first Format or compression scheme from a computer running an Internet telephone software application which uses the first compression scheme; converting the Internet telephony message into a second Format or compression scheme, optionally via an intermediate format such as PCM; sending the Internet telephony message to another computer running another Internet telephone software application using the second format.

Abstract: Using the Internet World Wide Web (WWW) network (320), a WWW client (310) ca n communicate with a WWW Server (330) to request access to a user's voice mail. In order to satisfy this request, the user enters his voice mail mailbox number, and activ ates an appropriate hyperlink. The WWW Server then launches an application, MSG Clie nt (350), which in turn communicates with an application , MSG Server (370), that runs in conjunction with the voice mail system (380, 385, 390). In response to an initial message from the MS G Client, the MSG Server returns information about all voice mail messages wit hin the specified mailbox, which are displayed at the WW W Client. This display includes a hyperlink to each message in the mailbox. Th us a user can select a message from within the mailbox b y activating this hyperlink, which prompts the WWW Server to again launch MSG Client. This in turn sends a second message to MSG Server, which responds by returning the actual audio data for the selected m essage to the MSG Client, which is forwarded onto the WW W Client via the WWW Server. The WWW Client then plays out the audio data, all owing the user to hear his or her selected voice mail message.

Abstract: Voice data requires large storage resources even when compressed and takes a long time to retrieve. Further the required information cannot normally be directly located and it is difficult to analyze the voice data for statistical information. There is described a method for performing a voice recognition function on a voice telephone conversation to convert the conversation into text data using a voice processing system. The method comprises receiving voice data representing the telephone conversation comprising a first series of speech data from an agent interspersed with a second series of speech data from a client and storing the first and second series of speech data as a single body of voice data for later retrieval. Then a voice recognition function is performed on the voice data to convert it into text data representing the telephone conversation and the text data is stored for later retrieval. Such a solution allows entire days/weeks or even months of conversation to be stored and accessed. Since the memory space required is considerably smaller for text storage it is possible to keep many days of conversation in directly accessible memory that may be searched by a computer. Furthermore it is possible to search for keywords typed from the keyboard and it is not necessary to manually scan the entire conversation for the desired topic.
